Manual on Women’s Access to Rural Land in Niger: The Regions of Dosso and Tillabéri
This guideline is now available for justice practitioners, including traditional leaders, judges, mediators, civil society organisations, social workers, law enforcement officials, lawyers, and religious leaders, in order to promote practices that facilitate women's access to land and inclusive land governance in the Tillabéri and Dosso regions.
A guideline is a collection of best practices and recommendations that helps justice practitioners prevent and resolve different types of justice issues based on evidence.
Its development follows a participatory, structured, and evidence-based process. It began with identifying a priority issue, followed by a research phase aimed at collecting data from both practice-based evidence (experiences gathered from justice practitioners across Niger) and scientific research (national and international literature). This research identified specific obstacles to women’s access to land, while proposing concrete, proven solutions adapted to the local context.
A committee of experts composed of legal practitioners, including magistrates, traditional leaders, academics, and representatives of civil society, was then formed to analyse this information, identify best practices, and issue recommendations. These experts played a decisive role in ensuring that the local context in Niger was taken into account in all recommendations and best practices.
At the end of this process, eight recommendations were issued and 44 best practices identified, all geared towards the same objective: “facilitating women’s access to rural land and promoting inclusive land governance.”
This guideline is now available for justice practitioners, including traditional leaders, judges, mediators, civil society organisations, social workers, law enforcement officials, lawyers, and religious leaders, in order to promote practices that facilitate women’s access to land and inclusive land governance in the Tillabéri and Dosso regions.
