Khaled Al-Abrash

Project Coordinator - Syria

Building a fairer world requires the same precision as designing a city: it demands a deep understanding of its history, a structured blueprint for its future, and an unwavering commitment to the people who inhabit it.

Khaled Al-Abrash is a Project Coordinator at the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL). He joined the organisation in May 2026, drawn by its dedicated mission to user-friendly justice. Khaled is a licensed architect and holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning. This unique background allows him to bring a structured, spatial, and analytical perspective to international development and legal innovation. In his current role as Project Coordinator, Khaled manages day-to-day project operations to ensure timely and impactful delivery.

He coordinates communication across diverse stakeholders and aligns project goals with HiiL’s strategic objectives. Additionally, he tracks project timelines, designs operational workflows, and supports data collection efforts to improve justice systems.

Throughout his career, Khaled has demonstrated an extensive track record in cross-sector coordination and project management within the international development field. Prior to HiiL, he served as a TPM Coordinator, where he successfully spearheaded large-scale monitoring and evaluation operations for prominent global agencies, including WFP, UNICEF, and UNDP. Notably, during his tenure as a Programme Officer for Cordaid, Khaled masterfully coordinated multi-sector interventions, contributing to successful funding bids with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aligning local execution teams with strict international standards. Furthermore, his strong stakeholder management skills enabled him to bridge gaps between national authorities, international agencies, and community networks to ensure seamless project delivery.

Outside of his professional life, Khaled places a high value on lifelong learning and continuous intellectual growth. He is married and dedicated to his family, balancing his career with a deep passion for reading and research. An avid reader, he spends much of his personal time exploring complex non-fiction subjects, with a particular focus on history, economy, comparative religious studies, sociology, and politics. This broad range of personal interests enriches his worldview, allowing him to understand global cultures and societal structures on a much deeper level.
