Tim van den Bergh
Senior Justice Sector Advisor
Many people see the justice sector merely as a distinct bureaucratic system, but in reality it is the very backbone of a well functioning society. Justice matters, for our well-being, safety, economy, and social cohesion.
Tim is a Senior Justice Sector Advisor at the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL). In this role, he works on leading Justice innovation initiatives. Having worked on projects in the Netherlands and Ethiopia, Tim combines data approaches, design methods and stakeholder facilitation to co-create people-centered justice solutions.
Tim joined HiiL to work on criminal justice reform in the Netherlands, supported with a criminology background and a curiosity for effective criminal justice policy (doing what works). Tim holds a MSc in Conflict Studies, a MA in North American Studies, and a Bachelor in Criminology from Loras College (Iowa).
Before his appointment at HiiL, Tim worked in the public diplomacy department of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs (RVO.nl). During this time, he was involved in organising numerous diplomatic missions for high-level political delegations.
Outside of work, Tim likes to cook, play football and make music. He also enjoys combining physical activity with nature when he goes for a run or rides his bicycle in the larger Nijmegen area.
