Fionuala Cregan

Advocacy & Campaign Specialist

“The secret of our success is that we never, never give up.” This quote by Native American leader Wilma Mankiller sums things up for me as a campaigner.

Fionuala is the Campaigns and Advocacy Specialist at HiiL leading a global campaign aimed at getting justice practitioners to implement people-centred justice.

Prior to joining HiiL, Fionuala was the coordinator of Land Rights Now – a global alliance campaign to secure the land rights of indigenous Peoples and local communities and connect the dots between secure collective land rights and climate change. Her passion for this and for people-centred justice stems from 6 years working alongside Indigneous Peoples in Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia, witnessing directly the failures of justice.

She was mobilisation coordinator with the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) which co-organised the world’s largest single issues-based campaign to ‘Stand Up’ Against Poverty – certified by the Guinness World Records with 173 million people in 2009.

She holds an MA in Gender and Anthropology from Goldsmiths College London, a Postgraduate Diploma in Print Journalism from the National Council for the Training of Journalists UK and BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies. Originally from Ireland, she spent 12 years living and working in Argentina.
