Nader Nadery
Senior Fellow in Peacebuilding and Global Justice
Working to bring people-centred justice to life, step by step, across borders. The path is long and complex, but deeply inspiring—because justice is never abstract, it is about people, their dignity, and their hope for a fairer future. Justice should never be the privilege of the powerful, but the birthright of all.
Nader Nadery serves as Senior Fellow for Peace and Global Justice at HiiL. In this role, he contributes to policy formulation, original research, and strategic programme design, while also engaging in high-level advocacy and international justice conferences to advance innovative, people-centred justice initiatives worldwide.
Previously, Nader was a Senior Fellow at the Wilson Center, a leading U.S.-based institution. Prior to that, he held senior leadership positions in Afghanistan, including Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Commissioner at the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission, and Senior Advisor to the President on strategic affairs. He also played a key role in the Doha peace negotiations as a member of Afghanistan’s negotiation team. Beyond government, he led Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU) and founded and directed the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan and worked with Global Rights on strengthening justice and human rights programmes. He is also affiliated with Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
When not immersed in justice and policy work, Nader enjoys playing Roblox with his daughter, listening to calming music, and visiting historical sites where the past still speaks. He loves horse riding and is endlessly fascinated by the vastness of space—a reminder of how small, yet how deeply connected, we all are.
