Louise Alves

Partnership Developer

From a young age, justice has been my guiding principle. I am motivated by the conviction that words and resources are inseparable tools for change. My work is an exercise in framing and reframing the narrative, building the confidence required to move vital funds and develop partnerships toward innovative solutions for justice.

Louise Alves is a Fundraiser & Partnership Developer at The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) and holds an Erasmus Mundus MA degree in Public Policy, Governance and Development. Her work is centered on building and nurturing long-term relationships with donors and strategic partners. She is dedicated to stewarding these relationships, focusing on transparency and trust to strengthen their confidence in HiiL’s mission and impact. By securing sustainable funding and impactful partnerships, Louise helps ensure the continued innovation and reach of HiiL’s justice programs.

Louise brings a strong track record of securing resources from philanthropic organisations. She has driven successful fundraising efforts, raising multi-million grants from prominent foundations, including IKEA Foundation, Ford Foundation, Porticus, and Open Society Foundations (OSF), in addition to securing funding from institutional partners like the U.S. Government (DRL and USAID). A key achievement has been her success in championing the principles of trust-based philanthropy, persuading major funders to shift from excessive requirements to focusing on mutual learning, ultimately securing unrestricted support and building lasting relationships founded on deep trust. Earlier in her career, working on the funder side, she also successfully influenced budget allocations to create new lines for participatory work in the youth and climate space.

Louise is a Brazilian who moved to the Netherlands with her partner in 2019, adding a new dog addition to the family since then. She is deeply passionate about the intersection of film, arts, and culture with social change, viewing narrative as a powerful tool for driving societal shifts. An avid reader and huge fan of (good and bad) films and TV, she is a reliable source for book, film, and series recommendations. Louise also loves cooking and hosting, often designing fun pub quizzes from scratch to entertain friends and family. Having lived and worked across continents, her international experience spans the UK, Uruguay, India, and Brazil.
