Tim Verheij

Justice Sector Advisor

Get out of your comfort zone. I live by this. At HiiL, I can push boundaries. I can explore and do things that I have never done before. By diving in the deep, I become creative. Evidence-based justice is a big, challenging topic, which is constantly in my mind.

Tim is a Justice Sector Advisor for the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law. He started at HiiL in 2016, as an intern. Tim is specialized in evidence-based justice, a big passion of his. The people-centred approach to justice attracted him to work for HiiL. Tim is a legal specialist and a European Law masters graduate from Maastricht University.

Tim has developed evidence-based justice guidelines in Uganda and elsewhere. He worked on the JNS The Hague report and currently works on a tool for justice practitioners to monitor outcomes for people with justice problems. He is the former editor-in-chief for a law journal.

In his free time, Tim likes to work on cars. The older the better. He writes for a Dutch classic car magazine. He also enjoys exploring new cities and to dive into photography. He has about 30 roommates, all of them are healthy plants. Listening to jazz and reading puts him in a calm and happy place.
