Julius Gateru Muriuki
Programmes Associate - Kenya
Martin Luther King said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” I believe that if I can improve access to justice, even to a few people, the world will be a better place.
Julius Muriuki is a Program Associate at The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL). He serves the Kenyan region in East Africa and is based in Nairobi.
Julius has a bachelor’s degree in Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in law as well. he joined HiiL in March 2022 and was attracted to the Organization by the amazing work they are doing around the world in preventing and solving justice problems.
Julius was part of a team that conducted a survey on how criminal prosecutors in Kenya arrive at a decision to charge someone with an offence. After the survey, they made recommendations on how this process could be streamlined. These recommendations were adopted and have aided a more objective approach when prosecutors make the decision to charge a person with an offence thereby reducing the misuse of the criminal justice system.
Julius believes teamwork is the key to achieving great results. Outside the work environment, Julius likes to travel and learn about different cultures, play tennis and watch football.
