Data on human needs show that justice systems still have a long way to go to deliver on SDG16.3 (equal access to justice for all). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Systemic change takes a very long time, whereas hands-on investing in justice innovation can realise results faster.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Giving justice innovations the edge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have written previously on the immense <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiil.org\/news\/struggle-survival-success-lessons-on-engaging-the-justice-sector\/\">struggle of surviving<\/a> as a justice entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>HiiL\u2019s acceleration program gives justice innovations the edge.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea is not to prop them up with financial support. We aim to give the startups \u2018runway\u2019; the tools they need to get to the next stage: sustainability and accelerated growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regional Finals, held this year in Kampala, Lagos, Nairobi and Johannesburg, is the kick-off of a meaningful engagement between HiiL and the promising innovations.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Role model access to justice solution&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Barefoot Law is one of the organisations that we have supported over the past 3 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael  Kwizera, Director of Strategy at Uganda-based, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/notes\/hiil\/five-minute-read-from-start-up-to-scale-up-the-role-of-partnerships-in-organisat\/3457688227578367\/\">Barefoot Law<\/a> said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cHiiL understood what BarefootLaw as an organisation needed to do &#8211; which was to move towards scale. Our three-year relationship meant HiiL understood our organisation and our deeply felt vision. We had learned from HiiL that structuring for scale was vital if we were going to achieve impact.\u201d<\/em> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Impact translates to preventing or solving justice problems for millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evidence of market demand for services like those offered by Barefoot Law means there is real social value in their operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/notes\/hiil\/five-minute-read-from-start-up-to-scale-up-the-role-of-partnerships-in-organisat\/3457688227578367\/\">case study<\/a> reveals just that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>  <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The hidden impact investment sector&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Impact investing strives to make pragmatic investments that address the route causes of problems to yield social returns.
