Personal alarms for human rights defenders

Personal alarms for human rights defenders 17 September 2013

Using technology to protect people at the point of arrest

Human rights defenders are often kidnapped or killed. Without information about the time/place of the attack it is impossible to help and, with dated information, the public’s sense of urgency is lost. There is a need to protect those at risk and bring the attacks to the world’s direct public as well as legal attention.

Natalia Project equips those at risk with GSM/GPS assault alarm hardware, sending a distress signal with time / place in case of an attack to local contacts and Civil Rights Defenders HQ so that they can react in accordance with security protocol tailored to the individual needs. The alarm is also pushed through mobile and social media to’s global network.

The alarm system provides both local protection and global engagement.
