A successful innovation is providing constitutional drafters with information about design options, drawing primarily on an original dataset of the features of national constitutions since 1789.

Constitutionmaking.org is motivated by the premise that constitutional drafters benefit from a comprehensive set of options when designing governing institutions, with the understanding that any particular draft must be tailored to the local environment.

The innovation features a series of reports on topics that are central to national constitutions. The reports provide information on trends and patterns in the choice of different constitutional provisions, as well as representative text from constitutions that have included the various provisions. The website also includes a repository of contemporary and historical constitutions as well as an active blog where constitutional scholars discuss events and practical concerns of constitutional drafting.
