Comptroller delivers independent oversight and investigates complaints

An innovative idea aims to establish a mechanism to foster greater public accountability and responsibility on the part of the Israeli criminal prosecution, which would involve system-wide oversight and a fair, efficient process for investigating complaints lodged against prosecutors.

After consulting with the Attorney General, the minister of justice will appoint a retired Supreme Court justice or district court judge to serve as an independent overseer (a comptroller) of the State Attorney’s Office and other offices engaged in criminal prosecution.
