By means of smart software, based on natural language technology, it is possible to automate the process of anonymising the judgments of a court .

Think Legal, the Netherlands based developer of the idea, was asked by a department within the Dutch  Ministry of Justice to solve the problem of publishing court sentences automatically but anonymously. Previously there had not been the personnel resources to make all of these documents anonymous. By automating the process, the number of published sentences increases by a factor of two or three.

The developed software was set up by analysing a few hundred court judgements and sentences and their anonymised representation.
