Geert Corstens

Dr. Geert Corstens was the President of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands until November 2014 In 1969 he completed a Master of Laws, cum laude at the Radbound University of Nijmegen. In 1974 while working as an assistant public prosecutor in Amsterdam, Dr. Corstens became a Doctor of law a the University of Amsterdam.

Afterwards, Dr. Corstens furthered his experience by working as a Law clerk at the District Court of Amsterdam and also as a lawyer at the Goudsmit & Branbergen law firm, between 1975 abd 1977. Later he became a public prosecutor in Arnhem and afterwards a professor of criminal law at the Catholic University of Nijmegen.

In 1995 he became Justice of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, in 2006  he was the Vice-President of the same court and between 2008 and 2014 Dr, Corstens was presiding the Supreme Court of the Netherlands.

Dr. Corstens was also a member of various law organisations including: the board of the Dutch Law Association, thew National Committee for the Reform of Criminal Procedure, the Advisory Board of the National Research Project on Criminal Procedure, among others. He also authored many published works on Dutch criminal procedure and European criminal law.
