3rd HiiL Interdisciplinary Career Day

27 May 2016

We are opening our doors to welcome students and professionals from various cultural and academic backgrounds who are passionate about justice and want to make a difference in the world!

Friday, 27 May 2016 | 14:00 – 18:00 | HiiL premises

We are offering a unique opportunity to:

  • Experience what it is like to be a HiiL’er
  • Learn more about innovation in the justice field
  • Learn more about our career and internship opportunities
  • Network with us and other great talents who are joining the event
  • Get inspired and intellectually stimulated!

In addition, you will have the opportunity to work together with other motivated talents under the guidance of HiiL'ers on a specific challenge which you can choose from below.

Justice Technology Challenge
If you’d like to get into the shoes of a technologically adept justice innovator, join our Justice Technology Team. The team will provide you with insights into the success of the Rechtwijzer platform - an online dispute resolution solution. What if we would innovate our legal system with the same disruptiveness as Uber brings? If we would design our legal procedures with the same focus on a great user experience as Apple designs its devices? And we would be able to make legal procedures work with the simplicity of Google? You will learn more about our Rechtwijzer platform that is currently available in the Netherlands and the UK, and helps people get a divorce. After that, we will challenge you to design and operationalise an outreach strategy for the Rechtwijzer platform. How can the public be persuaded to use the platform to make good agreements about their divorce? We will jointly figure it out!

Innovating Procedures
Legal procedures are often outdated, formalistic and slow. People are drawn into lengthy processes, which tend to prolong conflict rather than put people and organisations back on track. In our view, everyone who faces a conflict or crime should have access to a procedure that is effective, safe, fast, easy to understand and affordable. Join our Innovating Procedures Team to learn about a number of innovative procedures HiiL has designed. We will zoom in specifically on current divorce procedures and will try to understand how legal procedures impact the outcomes of a negotiation. Together we will work on designing a more collaborative procedure that leads to better results for disputing parties.

Justice Accelerator Challenge
Our Justice Accelerator Team is curious about your talent for finding and growing start-ups. Every year we look in all corners of the world for top talent: the most interesting justice innovations and high potential justice entrepreneurs. In addition, we support a selected group of top justice ventures to build partnerships and validate their investment case. Together with your fellow students you will look at concrete cases on finding, showcasing and growing justice businesses.

Measuring Justice Challenge
HiiL collects justice data from bottom-up - our data presents the justice needs and experiences of people in their daily lives. Are you curious to know how data can be put into action in order to improve access to justice for the people who need it? Do you have some innovative ideas on how evidence about bottom-up justice can help innovators? Our Measuring Justice Team invites you to participate in a mini-hackathon. Imagine you have just collected data in Tunisia on the justice needs of citizens in their daily life. Now what? We challenge you and your fellow talents to design a process in transferring justice evidence into better policies and justice processes. In the end, you will present your ideas during an interactive discussion session.

At the end of the day, the event will conclude with networking drinks: a great opportunity to have your questions answered and create new connections.
